The Gardens at Yanney Park
The Gardens at Yanney Park in Kearney, Nebraska, is a serene destination featuring seven distinct gardens: Pollinator, Lilac & Hydrangea, Nebraska Native, Annual, Rose, Xeriscape, and Edibles. Visitors can explore winding trails that meander through these beautifully curated spaces, enhanced by public art installations and other amenities. The Burlington Green Courtyard offers a picturesque gathering spot, while the Gail & Michael Yanney Pavilion is available for rent and perfect for public and private special events. The Gardens at Yanney Park provide a perfect blend of natural beauty and community spaces for relaxation and celebration.
Pollinator Garden
The Pollinator Garden serves as an example of the relationship between plants and the need for pollinators in nature. Certain plants will bloom early, others mid-summer, and yet others in early fall to provide a consistent food source for insects and butterflies.
Lilac & Hydrangea Garden
The Lilac & Hydrangea Garden showcases beautiful blossoms on display during the spring and summer months. This garden provides a wonderful experience of beauty and fragrance while enjoying a walk through the gardens or during respite on a nearby park bench.
Nebraska Native Garden
The Nebraska Native Garden showcases many plants native to or having ties to Nebraska’s various landscapes. Several plants in this garden will thrive in a prairie concept, provide seasonal color and require little maintenance throughout the growing season.
Edible Garden
The Edible Garden contains a collection of fruit trees, garden vegetables, small fruits, including berries and grapes, and some medicinal plants. The Gardens’ staff and volunteers will not only provide educational opportunities but also harvest produce from the garden to distribute to local food insecurity organizations.
Rose Garden
The Rose Garden features varieties of shrub roses, Hybrid Tea Roses and Floribundas. The walking paths within this garden will allow visitors to get up close and personal with the numerous colors and scents of 700-plus roses throughout the garden. Vertical landscaping is present with climbing roses reaching to the sun on trellises extending from the center of the garden.
Xeriscape Garden
Taking advantage of the park's western exposure, the Xeriscape Garden introduces visitors to the beauty of drought-tolerant and water-wise plantings. Different elevations will allow plants to grow along rocks and boulders, providing unique color and texture to this low-maintenance garden.
Annual Garden
The Annual Garden allows visitors to view thousands of colorful annuals displayed in different applications, such as containers, planted in the ground, and flowing along the bordering limestone retaining wall. A new theme will be developed annually to provide a breathtaking setting of colors and textures visible from the pavilion's patio.
